Erotic Haiku Poems by Gabriel Rosenstock
The World Haiku Club is a house of innovation as well as of conservation of tradition. As such it has created various fora to explore different possibilities of haiku in late 20th century and now in the 21st century. WHClovehaiku is one of them, where the range of haiku subject is stretched to the limit and its members have created, discussed and developed haiku on all aspects of love, from subtle Platonic love all the way to explicit physical love.
Now, the doyen of haiku, Gabriel Rosenstock, has recently worked on this theme and produced a collection of impressive erotic haiku and senryu, very honest and very explicit. He hit on an idea of writing these erotic haiku when he was staying in Kyoto and had an opportunity to see netsuke works, one of which was depicting an octopus making love to a human woman, a popular theme in traditional Japanese art and literature. Then came a sort of sexual fantacy whereby the author imagined himself to be an octopus in the act of having sex with a woman. They are quite fascinating, to put it mildly. It is regrettable not to be able to present all these poems here.
