Please read this carefully! I was asked by administrators to make this available to you....

(1) Students may only work on TEKS-based assignments while using Arp ISD's technology devices. They should be closely monitored and given exact assignments that require them to demonstrate completion of steps during class. They are never allowed to tell you, "I need to work the computer to do something for another teacher" without you checking with that teacher about the exact assignment.

(2) Our network is heavily subsidized by the Federal Government, therefore we are under federal guidelines and laws. These are not options. We must monitor students and abide by (CIPA, DOPA, FERPA, IDEA, etc). We are mandated by Federal Law to protect students against contacting or finding inappropriate people, abusers, criminals, predators, or surfing through inappropriate content, etc.

(3) Students are not allowed to surf merely for pleasure or curiosity through inappropriate material or on an appropriateness sites like: multi-player gaming sites, dating sites, searching for criminals, abusers, or parents who have relinquished their rights, gambling sites, gossip news sites or inappropriate graphics, videos, or fantasy games sites, etc.

(4) Some of our students are under court orders as to what they can and cannot do on the Internet, who they can contact, and what kinds of communications they can engage in.

(5) All of our students need to learn through Arp ISD school system, how to use technologies ethically, appropriately, & productively by gaining TEKS-based research, communication, and technology skills.

As Teachers, you may need to hone your detective skills. Here is how!

How to tell what a student is trying to hide while working on a computer.

(1) Option 1--You be the detective: As you walk up to the student, they immediately click and a window disappears. Here is what you can check:

a. Check the Task Bar. Programs that have been minimized will still appear on the Task Bar. Can you tell what has been minimized on this Task Bar? (Hint: the Task Bar is usually at the bottom of the screen, however, students often move it to the top of the screen) Your Task Bar Programs may vary (pink arrows) from this example, but Open Tasks that have been minimized (green arrows) are what you are looking for. Ask the student to step away from the machine and open each of these pages.

b. Open their Browser. Check the Browsing History. Ask the student to step away from the computer. Make sure they are still logged on. (1) Click on the 3 dot icon (2) Click on History (3) See all the recently closed websites.

(2) Option 2 - Let us be the detective: If you really think something is going on, email tech@arpisd.org. Give the student's full name and grad year. We will either remote to them or print out their logs. If they require a citation, we will let you know.
