Laptop Care

All district devices are STILL under warranty.....so if something goes wrong with one...please notify me immediately.

LAPTOP CARE:

(1) Do not use your laptop on your lap! Solid surface is best.

(2) Recharge your laptop during band, athletics, and lunch.

(3) Use a surge protector! Do NOT plug a laptop into an unprotected wall receptacle!

(4) Do NOT poke the LCD screen with your hands or fingers! Do not let your students or children. Use dedicated screen wipes to clean screens. Do NOT spray anything ON the screen.

(5) Do NOT kink or put a strain on any of the cords or cables.

(6) Do NOT subject your laptop to extreme temperatures. Don't leave in a hot car or freezing environment.

(7) Do NOT store your laptop unused for a long period of time in classroom closets or places where air circulation is low. Humidity can corrode the system in a closed environment like a bag or closet.

(8) DO make sure you run updates, Malwarebytes, Symantec or run a well-known virus scanner like Avast.

(9) IF SOMETHING IS BROKEN on your district laptop – REPORT IT IMMEDIATELY to Tech Department!!! If the maintenance agreement expires before you report it, you may be liable for the repair.

Remember, the less a laptop is moved from place to place….the longer it will last. The less you open and close the lid the longer it will last.

TECHNOLOGY MAINTENANCE

PROCEDURES

COMPUTER MAINTENANCE:

The following practices have been found to reduce maintenance costs. All district equipment will be used following these guidelines.

DO NOT:

DO NOT Turn on a computer without using a surge protector

DO NOT Turn off the computer while in Microsoft Windows. Follow the shutdown procedures.

DO NOT spray cleaners directly onto any electronic component. To clean your screen or computer, lightly spray a lint-free dust cloth and then wipe down equipment

DO NOT Cover your computer with plastic, paper, or any other material while it is on-- the heat buildup is dangerous!

DO NOT Save personal files on the hard drive of your computer -- use cloud folders to assist you in remote access.

DO NOT LOAD any program files on your district computer. Contact a technology coordinator before you attempt to load any software on your machine!

DO NOT Load any shareware program or other software not purchased by the district. Viruses are transmitted this way.

DO NOT Bump a computer or "jar" it, move it or the table it is sitting on while it is running. Keep printers off the same table as your computer. Movement of your computer may cause hard drive failure.

DO NOT Set other electronic equipment near your computer (phones, stereos, radios, coffee cup warmers, electronic pencil sharpeners...etc.)

DO NOT Plug other electronic appliances into your laptop surge protector. This causes small surges that eventually may damage your computer. Note: there is no protection between outlets on a surge protector only between the surge protector and the outlet wall circuit.

DO NOT bring diskettes, CDs, Thumb drives, or Flash drives into the district. You may email your self-documents through school email OR you may store documents on Google File Stream. When you retrieve these documents or files they have already been scanned four times by various protection software tools.

DO NOT Allow students to utilize the Internet while unattended -- for ANY reason!

DO NOT Allow students to perform administrative tasks on district computers (i.e. add programs, delete programs, perform upgrades or maintenance, unless accompanied by a maintenance request form from your campus technology coordinator.)

DO:

Use a surge protector on all electronic equipment.

Keep dust, food, and liquids away from all electronic equipment. Dust the system regularly.

Unplug your system from the wall on vacations, unless your technology coordinator tells you otherwise.

Keep your mouse pad clean. This will lengthen the life of your mouse.

Lock your account on your computer before leaving it unattended.

BATTERIES: Remove all batteries from calculators, remote controls, and other similar equipment over long breaks or summer vacations. Batteries should be stored in plastic wrap so that they do not touch each other or other metals. Keep them in a cool, dry place.
