Bydd y fanyleb TGAU Saesneg Iaith yn galluogi dysgwyr i arddangos sgiliau llafaredd, darllen ac ysgrifennu sy'n hanfodol wrth gyfathrebu ag eraill yn hyderus, yn effeithiol, yn gywir ac yn briodol.

The new English Language specification is untiered (no longer higher/foundation), allowing for all pupils to reach for the highest grade possible.

All examinations must be taken at the end of the course in Year 11. There is no opportunity to enter in Year 10.

Uned 1:

Arholiad llafar - 20%:

Tasg 1 - Cyflwyniad Unigol ar Sail Ymchwil◾Cyflwyniad unigol ar sail ymchwil annibynnol.

Tasg 2 - Ymateb a Rhyngweithio◾Tasg grŵp yn seiliedig ar sbardunau ysgrifenedig a/neu weledol a ddarperir gan CBAC.

Uned 2:

Arholiad Darllen ac Ysgrifennu: Disgrifio, Naratif ac Esbonio 40%:

Adran A - Darllen a Deall nifer wahanol o destunau ac ymateb i amrywiaeth o fathau o gwestiynau.

Adran B – YsgrifennuUn dasg ysgrifennu o ddewis o ddau. Gall fod yn naill ai’n dasg ddigrifio, tasg naratif neu dasg esbonio.

Bydd yr adran hon yn cynnwys hefyd un dasg prawf ddarllen yn canolbwyntio ar ysgrifennu’n gywir.

Uned 3:

Arholiad Darllen ac Ysgrifennu: Trafod, Perswâd a Chyfarwyddiadol 40%:

Adran A - Darllen a Deall o leiaf un testun trafod, un cyfarwyddiadol ac un perswâd.

Adran B – Ysgrifennu dwy dasg ysgrifennu orfodol– trafod ac un dasg ysgirfenedig orfodol- perswâd.

Unit 1:

Oracy (non-examination assessment) 20%

  • Task 1 (10%) - Individual Researched Presentation (40 marks)

    • Based on WJEC set themes (Wales, Leisure, The World of Work, The World of Science/Technology and Citizenship)

    • Task: One week to research topic. Investigate topic by using internet, reading, newspapers/magazines or listening to news.

  • Task 2 (10%) - Responding and Interacting (40 marks)

    • Group discussion to written/visual stimuli provided by WJEC to initiate discussion. This cannot be done until Year 11 (new materials will be released every September thereafter)

    • Task: stimulus materials shown one week prior to task which must be collected in each lesson.

An electronic recording of all candidates’ responses must be made (although they haven’t told us which formats they will accept)

Unit 2:

External Assessment (Exam) - Reading and Writing: Description, Narration and Exposition (40%) 2 hour exam.

  • Section A (20%) Reading (40 marks)

    • Range of questions (multiple choice, fill in the blanks, extended responses) based on continuous and non-continuous texts

    • An editing task (multiple choice, sequencing, proofreading and editing)

  • Section B (20%) Writing (40 marks)

    • One writing task selected from a choice of two. 50% of the marks are awarded for accuracy.

    • This section will also include a proofreading task focusing on writing accurately.

Unit 3:

External Assessment- Reading and Writing: Argumentation, Persuasion and Instructional* (40%) 2 hour exam.

  • Section A (20%) Reading (40 mark)

    • Understanding of at least one argumentation, one persuasion and one instructional text including continuous and non-continuous texts through a range of structured questions.

  • Section B (20%) Writing (40 marks)

    • One compulsory writing task AND one compulsory persuasion writing task.

    • 50% of the marks are awarded for communication and organisation and 50% for writing accurately (language, grammar, punctuation and spelling)
