Uned 1:

Nofel Of Mice and Men/ Barddoniaeth (35%)

    • Papur Ysgrifenedig yn ymateb i Of Mice and Men ac un cwestiwn Barddoniaeth- Bydd disgwyl i’r ymgeiswyr werthfawrogi a chymharu dwy gerdd maent heb ei weld o'r blaen.

Uned 2:

Ymateb i ddrama (An Inspector Calls) a nofel fyr (Heroes) (40%)

    • Papur Ysgrifenedig 2 awr- Cwestiynau wedi’u strwythuro ar y testunau gosod.

Uned 3:

Gwaith cwrs/ traethawd (25%) - Ymateb i Shakespeare a cymharu dwy gerdd.

Unit 1:

External Assessment (Exam)- Prose and Poetry (Contemporary) (35%)

Pupils will usually study Of Mice and Men and learn to analyse unseen poetry. This is a 2 hour exam and books are not allowed.

In the Of Mice and Men section, pupils will analyse an extract from the novel and write an essay. In the essay section, they are expected to discuss the impact of historical context on the novel.

Unit 2

(a): External Assessment (Exam)- Literary heritage drama and contemporary prose (40%). Pupils will usually study An Inspector Calls and Heroes.

This is the 2 hour exam - again, it is closed text. Pupils will be expected to analyse an extract on each text and write an essay on each text. In the essay section of An Inspector Calls, pupils are expected to discuss the impact of historical context on the play.

Unit 3:

Non-examination Assessment (25%)

This is Shakespeare and Welsh poems controlled assessment (now to be called ‘non-examination assessment’) which consists of two separately marked pieces of non-examination assessment:

  • Section A (Shakespeare) is separate from the poetry from Wales (Section B).

  • Section B will be a comparison of the poems only.

No notes may be taken into the non-examination assessment sessions.
