Day 3

Avui hem anat a visitar l'Escola de Barqueiros, un centre educatiu públic d'una línia que forma part de l'Agrupamento Escolar de Barcelos.  Aquesta escola va ser remodelada el 2011 a causa de la degradació de l'antic edifici. En aquesta centre hi assisteix alumnat d'infantil i de primer cicle de primària (en el cas de Portugal, 1r, 2n, 3r i 4t de primària).

Allí ens ha rebut el Sr. Victor Rodrigues Pinto, el coordinador de l'escola (director), que ens ha ensenyat totes les instal·lacions, ens ha explicat com s'organitzen i quines metodologies utilitzen, alguns dels projectes que realitzen i hem pogut conèixer el professorat que hi treballa i l'alumnat.

Aquí el professorat d'infantil, 1r i 2n  de primària s'encarrega d'impartir totes les àrees amb el seu alumnat. A partir de 3r ja entren els especialistes 2 hores a la setmana. Les mestres d'infantil que ens han atès ens han explicat que tenen alumnes de diferents edats a la classe (de 2 a 6 anys) i treballen i col·laboren tots junts, elles intenten preparar feines que tots puguin fer augmentant o disminuint la dificultat segons l'alumnat.

Un dels espais més vius del centre és la biblioteca escolar, on un mestre s'encarrega a jornada completa d'organitzar i dinamitzar l'espai tot fent que l'alumnat de l'escola hi participi activament, amb activitats de lectoescriptura diverses. A més, hi ha servei de préstec de llibres per fomentar el gust per la lectura.

L'escola està iniciant un projecte pilot amb una gosseta, la Kelly, per treballar amb l'alumnat de primària. Ella està a l'escola durant el dia convivint amb l'alumnat i professorat, i es realitzen activitats organitzades concretes amb alguns dels/les alumnes. També tenen el projecte de l'hort escolar i realitzen setmanes temàtiques com per exemple la setmana de la robòtica.

L'alumnat té la possibilitat de realitzar diferents activitats complementàries a la tarda amb professorat extern, com per exemple esports, idiomes, art... Tot l'alumnat pot assistir a aquestes sessions complementàries de forma gratuïta, fet que fa que tot l'alumnat hi participi.

Today we visited the Barqueiros School, a public one line centre that is part of the Agrupamento Escolar de Barcelos. This school was remodeled in 2011 due to the degradation of the old building. This center is attended by students from Pre-primary and first cycle of primary school (in the case of Portugal, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade of primary school).

There we were received by Mr. Victor Rodrigues Pinto, the school coordinator (headmaster), who showed us all the facilities, explained to us how they are organized and what methodologies they use, some of the projects they carry out and we were able to meet the teachers who work there and the students.

Here, the teachers from pre-primary education, 1st and 2nd grade of primary school are responsible for teaching all the areas with their students. From the 3rd grade onwards, specialists come in for 2 hours a week. The pre-primary teachers have explained to us that they have students of different ages in the class (from 2 to 6 years old) and they all work and collaborate together, they try to prepare tasks that everyone can do, increasing or decreasing the difficulty according to the students.

One of the liveliest spaces in the center is the school library, where a teacher is in charge of organizing and energizing the space full-time, making the students of the school actively participate, with various reading and writing activities. In addition, there is a book lending service to encourage them on reading.

The school is starting a pilot project with a dog, Kelly, to work with the primary school students. She is at school during the day living with the students and teachers, and specific organized activities are carried out with some of the students. They also have the school garden project and special weeks such as robotics week.

Students have the possibility of carrying out different complementary activities in the afternoon with external teachers, such as sports, languages, art... All students can attend these complementary sessions for free, which means that all students participate.
