Day 5

Quan hem arribat a l’escola, hem assistit a una sessió de llengua anglesa de 6è on treballaven l’expressió escrita tot utilitzant el programa “Book Creator”. Cada alumne/a havia d’explicar què menja per esmorzar, aquesta activitat forma part del projecte eTwinning del qual participen, per tant, era compartida amb d'altres centres europeus. En aquest cas, hem pogut debatre amb la mestra sobre la metodologia i els llibres que el sistema educatiu grec utilitza i valorar la dificultat afegida que comporta el fet d’ensenyar una llengua amb un alfabet completament diferent.

Després hem anat a 2n de primària, on la mestra ha ensenyat l’algoritme de les “restes portant-ne” i, sorprenentment, utilitzen la mateixa tècnica que al nostre centre. Tot seguit, l’alumnat ha resolt operacions i, en el moment que acabaven la fitxa, s’aixecaven i ajudaven a la resta de companys i companyes.

Posteriorment, el director del centre ens ha ensenyat un dels projectes dels quals se senten més orgullosos: l’hort escolar. Tenen una gran varietat de plantes mediterrànies i un dels mestres és el responsable de cuidar-les mitjançant l’ajuda de grups de 10 alumnes que van variant. A més, l’Ajuntament de la ciutat els ha cedit un espai al parc de davant del centre per poder plantar-hi flors decoratives de les quals l’alumnat també se'n farà càrrec.

Finalment, hem assistit a una sessió magistral de llengua grega de la mà de la mestra de 1r de Primària. L’alumnat anava omplint, amb l’orientació de la mestra, els espais d’un text amb les noves conjugacions de diversos verbs.

When we arrived at the school, we attended at the 6th grade English language lesson where they worked on their writing using the program "Book Creator". Each student had to explain what they ate for breakfast. This activity is part of the eTwinning project they are part of, therefore, it is shared with other European schools. In this case, we have been able to debate with the teacher about the methodology and books that the Greek education system uses and understand the extra difficulty involved in teaching a language with a completely different alphabet.

Then, we went to the 2nd grade class, where the teacher taught the math subtraction algorithm and, surprisingly, they used the same technique as in our school. After that, the students solved operations and, when they finished the worksheet, they could stood up and help the rest of their classmates.

Afterwards, the headmaster of the center showed us one of the projects they are most proud of: the Vegetable Garden. They have a wide variety of mediterranean plants and one of the teachers is responsible for taking care of them with the help of the students, organized in groups of 10. In addition, the Town Hall has given them a space in the park in front of the school to be able to plant decorative flowers which the students will take care of.

Finally, we attended a master lesson of Greek language by the 1st grade teacher. With the teacher's guidance, the students were filling in the spaces in a text with the new conjugations of various verbs.
