Gillian recalls always going singing peace songs with Woodcraft Folk before CND officially started in 1958. The Aldermaston marches were long and at different points by more people. The Direct Action Committee against Nuclear War (DAC) organised the first Easter march; people marched for four days from Trafalgar Square to Aldermaston. However from 1959 the march was organised by the CND and the direction of the march was reversed to distinguish their campaign from the DAC.
Gill told us stories of her childhood and her parents, active in the Peace Movement and Woodcraft Folk and loaned items to us including these hand crafted emblems along with their signed Woodcraft Charters.
She has also worked with fellow singers to keep the tradition of singing to include the Peace songs of the 1960s and 70s in Woodcraft Folk, and helped edit our Songbook for Camp 100
