Carved at Camp 100 during bushcraft workshop and left at the Trailblazer tent. Appears to have the name 'Lea' written with felt tips at the Trailblazer tent.  It's a small mammal - a mouse, muskrat or possibly a beaver?

Model tent with all doll-sized kit for a 'Wapanshaw'. It was made by Joan Pover to demonstrate how to put up a tent and what may be required when you camp.

The leaders manual is a collective venture setting out broader themes encouraging more debate and sharing ‘peer-to-peer’, building on ‘Education for Social Change’ led by young people.

Throughout the history of Woodcraft there has been a running debate between 'Anti-Fascists' and 'Pacificists'.  World War Two, where conscientious objectors risked imprisonment was a moment when the debate was at it's height.  Three objects, from different times in Woodcraft History mark out the debates happening.

Camp 'Taboos' has been noted from early camps right up to present day. Here's an example of a 'camp taboo' checklist used until fairly recently, and a brief article in our archives from the 1930s.

'Local camps we all cycled to with minimum packing to get on our bicycles, including food and cooking equipment. We used wood fires, aluminium tent poles and billy cans made by parents which were so light.

The Woodcraft Folk, a British educational movement for children and young people founded in 1925, has deep historical and ideological ties to the UK Labour Party, the co-operative movement and trade unions.

The chronicles set out a ‘revolution of thought’ for the Kibbo Kift Kindred and first mentions 'The Woodcrafters' as 'Kindred'.

Presents given at International camps

One of three PVC all weather maps positioned near the library for each of the three camps for Camp 100. Along with the pocket maps, they were invaluable to find your way around in the first few days.

The banner was hand painted in Birmingham by Woodcraft Members in the 1950s (alongside George Holyoake)  and has been a part of the Birmingham and Midlands Institute Collection for many years.

Ryton Woodcraft Folk, North East Region

The item chosen for '100 Objects Spanning 100 Years' Exhibition' was a 'Helper' magazine dating from 1938 with a woodcut illustration on the front cover depicting Concentration camps already in existence, before the 'Death Camps' of World War Two.

Artist Ben Jones and Birmingham District worked together to create their own timechart and snapshot of their Woodcraft Folk.

Building on the work of Leslie Paul, this book is still used as a manual for Woodcraft.  It breaks down the philosophy into more practical interpretations and badges, based on the training Basil Rawson was already delivering for Woodcraft Folk.

Dance, along with all forms of creative expression (music, craft and drama) have always been important in Woodcraft Folk.

Over 100 years many authors have written about Woodcraft Folk for Woodcraft Folk, and for a wider audience about 'Social Reform', 'Internationalism', 'Education for Social Change' and the many other issues important to us.
