One of many items exchanged or presented at Woodcraft Folk Camp. Lou Hayton tells us more about the plate.
More about
'I am an adult member of the WCF in Brighton Central and Hove district and was at Camp 100. Please bear with the story, it's relevant. In 1975 I went to help set up the 50th anniversary camp near Loughborough. I couldn't stay as my parents wouldn't stump up the money for the actual camp, though I did come back for 1 night.
Both my kids went through Woodcraft, and although my son went on the 2006 International Camp (Global Village), I didn't go as I couldn't afford for both of us to go. The way things worked out I didn't manage to do an international camp until Common Ground in 2022.
I drove the truck with all our equipment and really enjoyed the camp, not just the pub in a tent, there wasn't one of those in 1975 I'm sure. It was great meeting people from around the country and the wider world and enjoyed meeting our Catalan delegation, who needed advice on fire lighting as they were banned from doing so in Catalonia because of ongoing drought conditions.
At the end our camp chief Sarah said there were 2 presentations to be made. The first was to the Catalans and the second was to 'our truck driver' and it didn't occur to me for a minute that thos was in fact me.
I was presented with a 50th anniversary camp memorial wooden bread board, which left me speechless for at least 45 seconds. One of our adults' partner is an antiques dealer and they had found it in a random antiques fair.'
