The first thing we need to understand about ethnicity and race is that we have to follow whatever the parents tells us on the Ethnicity and Race forms.
Also, the only time that we can make the determination ourselves is when the parent REFUSES to answer those questions.
Some specifics about American Indian, if the ancestors are born anywhere in South, Central, or North America then the children ( or employee ) are American Indian.
White is used for people with ancestors from Europe.
For example, I ( Juan Ruelas ), my daughter and my grandchildren are American Indians, but my wife, who has ancestors from France, is coded as White.
To finish, here are the subgroups for the state and federal accountability ratings.
1.) Hispanic, if yes, then race does don't count, students are grouped under Hispanic.
2.) One race only (NOT Hispanic) - Each of these become a subgroup.
3.) Two or more races (NOT Hispanic) - This is the last subgroup.
Just a reminder, we are NOT to change whatever the parents indicate on the Ethnicity/Race forms.
