Asynchronous instructional program with third-party vendor Graduation Alliance went into effect 11/2/21. Student should be enrolled on the first day student logged into Graduation Alliance distance learning program. Parents/students were told that program would begin 10/25/21 and did not send student to INPerson school between 10/25 - 11/2/21. Mark those absences for VLA students as Absent Excused. If student was counted absent by INPerson teacher but logged into Graduation Alliance, you may code student as VERIFIED PRESENT for all periods that day.
Student will be marked present for asynchronous instruction if student logged in and/or submitted assignments for that day. Graduation Alliance will email a roster of students along with those who logged in and submitted assignments the prior day. If student did NOT log in or submit work, mark student Absent. PRINT AND STORE the report for attendance auditing purposes. Your campus needs to obtain excuses so that you may change to Absent Excused, if necessary. Students can only have 10 unexcused absences in a 6-month period before they are removed from the asynchronous program.
Attendance clerks will mark attendance on official attendance period. All VLA students need a class during 2nd period. In the meantime, please schedule student in credit recovery until counselor provides actual schedule.
Data entry will enter the schedule as provided by the counselor. Some CTE courses will need to be InPerson so those classes will remain on student schedule. If counselor assigns a course from Graduation Alliance, drop the old inperson course and enroll in appropriate Z course. Use primary staff id "V-Staffxxx."
In the event that you have a student who meets those requirements and will be Remote Conferencing, you must change those student's Learning Location.
Make sure you place an end date when the student returns to on-campus instruction
New Attendance Codes for 21-22 School Year.
SB289 and HB699 will introduce new attendance codes for the 21-22 school year.
DL - allows a district to excuse an absence for a student 15 years or older who is obtaining a driver’s license or learner’s permit.
LT - excuse absences for a student who has a life threatening illness or is undergoing treatment for a life threatening illness.
(3) an absence resulting from a serious or
life-threatening illness or related treatment that makes the
student's attendance infeasible, if the student or the student's
parent or guardian provides a certification from a qualified
physician specifying the student's illness and the anticipated
period of the student's absence relating to the illness or related treatment.
New attendance codes will be excused absences.

More information will be provided later in the week.
Remote Synchronous Instruction – Two-way, real-time/live, virtual instruction between teachers and students when students are not on campus. In this method, the required amount of instructional time is scheduled each day, and funding is generated when attendance is recorded daily at a locally selected snapshot time. Synchronous instruction is provided through a computer or other electronic device or over the phone. The instructional method must address the required curriculum, per TEC, §28.002.
Remote Asynchronous Instruction – Instruction that does not require having the instructor and student engaged at the same time. In this method, students learn from instruction that is not necessarily being delivered in-person or in real time. This type of instruction may include various 2 forms of digital and online learning, such as prerecorded video lessons or game-based learning tasks that students complete on their own, and pre-assigned work and formative assessments made available to students on paper. The instructional method must address the required curriculum, per TEC, §28.002.
In a remote synchronous teaching and learning method, students who are logged in at the teacher’s documented official attendance time are marked remote synchronous present for that day, and students who are not logged in at the teacher’s documented official attendance time are marked absent.
A student will be considered absent if the student does not have documented engagement with the LMS and/or daily 4 contact with the teacher, and/or documentation of completion/turn in of daily assignments. A teacher or campus representative will input the student’s daily attendance into the Student Information System (SIS) for the asynchronous method, based on the student’s daily engagement with the LMS or other instructional avenue and/or the daily contact with the teacher, by marking the student remote asynchronous present or absent on that day.

Students are required to be engaged daily with work on LMS (Seesaw, Google Classroom, etc.) following a daily calendar of assignments. Students who do not demonstrate engagement on a given day are marked absent; however, if assignments are turned in up to 11:59pm of the same day, teachers can amend attendance the following day.
1. Homeroom teacher should mark students absent by 10:15 am.
2. If student participates in synchronous instruction after attendance is taken, you may remove the absence.
3. If student demonstrates engagement later that same day, mark the student present.
4. Once you are notified of a COVID absence, direct the student to asynchronous learning from Seesaw or Google Classroom. Texas Home Learning 3.0 can be used as support resources.
5. On the following day, schools will analyze the attendance report and compare to student submission of work to verify attendance.
6. Evaluate if the student completed enough work at home to indicate a Remote Asynchronous Present (RAP).
7. If the student completed enough work at home, correct the student’s absence in eSchool to indicate Remote Asynchronous Present (RAP).
8. *Non-homeroom team teachers cannot modify attendance. In this scenario, teacher must alert attendance clerk or homeroom teacher of (RAP) remote asynchronous present.
9. This action can be done by
a) The teacher of record
b) Attendance Clerk
c) Data Entry Clerk
d) Support Staff
10. The correction must be made on eSchool by 4:00 the following day.
