In social studies, we are now learning about the early settlers to the Sacramento area. The first person we learned about was James Marshall. Ask your child what his impact was to the Sacramento region!
We brainstormed topics we feel we are experts in. Topics students picked ranged from cooking to Roblox to drawing. From there, we created subtopics. Ask your child what they will be writing about as the expert!
We will be taking a formative (mini check-in) informational writing assessment next week to see where students are with this writing style. Students will get feedback on where they are (on a rubric similar to what was attached to their narrative writing). They will have the option to bring in a book or other outside source for their informational writing.
Math
We have been working hard on word problems, solving to find the unknowns, and decomposing throughout this week. During conferences, conversations about the increase in rigor came up frequently. I have included a sample problem from SBAC that students may encounter when they take the assessment in Spring. Feel free to give them a try with your child at home!
We will be taking our end of unit multiplication and division assessment on Friday, November 16th. Please look in your child's Friday Folder for a formative (mini check-in) that they took this week.
We will be doing a "Geometry Bootcamp" unit after our multiplication and division unit is over. It will be a week of learning about geometry. For this unit, there are a few things that we need. If you are able to donate the items, we would really appreciate it! CLICK HERE to see what we need!
