Here's what we've been up to in D111 this week!

ELA/Social Studies
- In ELA we began our opinion writing unit. Students are working on using reasons and examples to support their opinion.
- For Social Studies, we read the folktale The Legend of the Bluebonnet for our Tomie dePaola author study unit. We discussed the important story elements such as characters, setting, plot, and moral.
- A formative informational writing assessment is going home with your child in their Friday Folder today. This assessment is a "check-in" to see where they are in the area of informational writing. We will be returning to informational writing again during this trimester for students to have the opportunity to show growth and mastery.
Math
Math
- Going home in your child's Friday Folder is their multiplication and division unit assessment. Please read the note attached on the front outlining the breakdown of your child's score and the opportunity for retakes. If you have any questions, please reach out to me.
- We are moving on to our next unit in math: Area and Perimeter. The math worksheet packets for this unit will be in their Friday Folders today as well.

Holiday Book Exchange
Holiday Book Exchange
For this holiday season we will be doing a book exchange in our classroom! Each student will bring in a new or lightly used book to class to give to another student. Please wrap the book and write whom the book is from (you will not know who the book goes to because we will be playing a game to find out which book each student receives.)
Some books I've noticed students are very interested in are: Dogman, Goosebumps, National Geographic for Kids, and any graphic novel!
Please bring the books to our class by Monday, December 17th. We will open them at our holiday celebration on Thursday!

During the holiday season, we are going to decorate gingerbread houses with our little buddies! There are a few items we will need donated in order to complete this project. Please CLICK HERE to sign up!

Permission slips are in your child's Friday Folder for our field trip on Wednesday, January 16th to the Nimbus Fish Hatchery. If you are interested in being a chaperone, please CLICK HERE.
- Talent Show Auditions: Click HERE to sign up to audition for our Talent Show by December 20th. Students will be notified of audition time slots on 1/11/19. Please note that we will not have group dance performances this year, instead will be showcasing our After School Enrichment programs with short performances. The Talent Show will take place on Friday, February 15th at 6:00 PM
- Enrichment Sign Ups Happening Now: Our winter session of AS Live: Enrichment will start Monday, January 7. Click HERE to see class offerings, prices, and links to sign up. Scholarships are available; there is a spot on the sign-up form to indicate that you would like a scholarship. Email live@westlakecharter.com with questions.
- Parents go to School Night: Save the Date-January 30th, 2019 5:30-8:00-Parent’s Go to School Night. Our fantastic staff will be presenting on various topics during our annual Parent’s Go to School Night. Save the date to come learn about everything from Math and ELA to Social Emotional Skills. This your chance to learn more about how your student is learning at Westlake Charter & ways to help support them at home.
- K-2 Walk to School Prize Day: The K-2 grade prize day is right around the corner! Kids who have been participating in Jibe's walk to school programs can spend those hard earned boot bucks on Prize Day, December 13th. All they have to do is bring their trip scanners to their last recess of the day to redeem boot bucks for prizes. If your child does not have a trip scanner or you would like more information about the walk to school programs Westlake offers, please contact Kristyn Escobedo at westlakew2s@Jibe.org. Don't forget to remind your student!
