ELA/Social Studies

After visiting the State Capitol this week, students were able to learn about the three branches of government in real life! Ask them what their favorite part of the field trip was!
We are learning about American Heroes by highlighting their impact, obstacles they faced, and achievements. The American Heroes we are learning about are: Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, Cesar Chavez, and Santos Manuel.
For opinion writing, the class read together the article, "Should we have zoos?" From there, we brainstormed reasons for yes and no. Ask your child which side they were on! Students will have the chance to write their own opinion paragraph on one of the three following topics:
- Too Young for FortNite Game?
- McDonald's Happy Meal Menu Changes
- Glitter is for Looking, Not Eating

Math

We will be continuing to work on how to tell elapsed time. The way we have been learning how to tell time is by using a number line. See the video to the left for how students learned this concept!
We are also learning about various forms of measurement. This week we learned about kilograms and grams. We will continue our work with measurement by discussing capacity in liters and milliliters.
This unit on measurement and telling time ends on March 29th. During the last week, students will take the post-test.

Odds and Ends

Spring NWEA: We will be taking our last round of NWEA for the third grade year on March 25th - April 5th.

Recess: All recess equipment is provided for students during recess. In order to keep items from being lost or stolen please keep all balls and equipment home.

Call for Coaches: This spring, we’re launching FUTSAL in our athletics program! Futsal is similar to indoor soccer; games will be played in our gym. We’re looking for adult and high school futsal coaches; please spread the word to help us recruit futsal coaches as well as kickball supporters. Click HERE for more information and to sign up!
