ELA/Science
This week we did the following Mystery Science lessons: Should you water a cactus? and Where do Plants Grow Best? Ask your child what they learned about different adaptations plants have to survive!
We are researching a topic we are passionate about to then write an informational piece on. Topics students selected have varied from Yorkies, to Narwhals, to painting.
Math
This past week we had reengagement lessons around the topic of area and perimeter. We will continue on to our next unit, fractions. Please check your child's Friday Folder for the optional homework pages.
Odds and Ends
B St. Theatre: Our field lesson to the B St. Theatre is coming up on Friday, 2/1. Please try and put your child's lunch in a disposable bag that is labelled with their name. They may wear jeans, a spirit shirt, and comfortable shoes.
Explorit In-House Field Lesson: We will have an in-house field lesson on Wednesday, January 30th (9:00AM-10:00AM) about animal adaptations. We would love to get a few parent volunteers to help facilitate the different rotations. If you're interested in coming in that day, please send me an email!
Valentine's Day: As Valentine’s Day approaches I know that many students look forward to bringing in Valentines to pass out to their class. In our class, we will be passing out Valentines at the end of our day on Thursday, February 14th. If your Explorer does decide to bring in Valentines, they must include everyone by bringing a Valentine for each classmate. As your Explorer chooses their Valentines, please make sure to avoid any products that contain peanuts so that we can keep all Explorers in D111 safe! A class list of names will go home in your child's Friday Folder this upcoming week.
Standards Based Grading Parent Night: What is Standards Based Grading? Please join us on Thursday, February 7th, from 6:00-7:00 pm in the Cafeteria for a parent information night about Standards Based Grading.
Parent’s Go to School Night: January 30th has the answers to these questions and more including reading, writing, math & technology sessions: What is Project GLAD? How can I help my student in Spanish? Do you need strategies to support your child’s mental health? Join us on Wednesday, January 30th from 5:30-8:00.
BASE will be offering free childcare, Click HERE to sign up.
In addition to amazing sessions, MASA Taco Truck will be available for families to purchase dinner.
