Third grade has been off to a great start! Read below to see what we were up to in D111!

ELA

  • After listening to the story "How I Spent My Summer Vacation", we wrote about what happened during our summer vacation.
  • We filled in "All About Me" information. I found out some very interesting things during this activity! Ask your child what they wrote down as their 2 facts about themselves! I had information ranging from: I like carrots all the way to I used to be a dancer.
  • We partnered up with another classmate and used a venn diagram to compare and contrast ourselves from them. It was cool getting to see how many similarities students were able to find! If anything, most times it was difficult for classmates to find ways they were different!

Math

  • We dipped our toes into the math world by focusing in on a few things. We discussed what we know about math and what we want to know about math. We also explored a few math tools we have in the classroom and used those items to jump into a class discussion about what is a tool versus what is a toy.
  • In your child's Friday Folder, you will find a packet of math worksheets that went home for Chapter 12. Those pages are for you to use at your discretion. It does not need to be returned to me.

Odds and Ends

  • Friday Folders: In our class, the blue communication folder will go home every Friday and will need to be brought back on Mondays. Any papers that are for me need to be on the "Return to School" side and I will take them out.
  • ClassDojo: I love using Class Dojo to keep families in the loop on what's happening in the classroom! If you have not signed up for Dojo yet, be sure to do so! If you need another sign up paper, please let me know!
  • School Supplies and Field Lesson Donations Campaigns: Families, this year we will be launching our School Supplies and Field Lesson donations campaigns on a new website. We will be launching this website next week. Many families have asked where they can make their donation, we appreciate your patience while we put the finishing touches on our new site. Look for a link to our new donations site next week!
  • After-School Live: After-School Live Clubs are back this year, and easier to lead than ever! Earn volunteer hours by leading Explorers in joyful learning experiences after school. Click here for more information, and Click HERE to show your interest. Email live@westlakecharter.com with questions.
  • Free and Reduced Meal Application: Each year, we ask families to complete a Free and Reduced Price School Meals (FRPSM) application. Students received the application, as well as a cover letter in their backpacks on Friday. We need every student to return the letter with a parent signature and the appropriate check-box selected by Friday, August 17th. Even if you choose not to complete the FRPSM application, we still need a letter back for each student so that we can ensure every family had the opportunity to complete the application.

If you have any questions or concerns, please fill in the Google form below. I will respond to you via email!

Until next week,

Miss Ho
