ELA/Social Studies

  • We have been working on the strategy of compare and contrast using the Miwok and Maidu tribes. We have also been writing cooperative paragraphs about the tribes and using an informational check-list to see if our writing has all components necessary.

Math

  • When it comes to multiplication and division, we have been working very hard on solving word problems. Being able to understand what a word problem is asking you to do is closely tied to comprehension as well. We are working as "detectives" to pinpoint those words that let us know what we should do.
  • We have been working on decomposing as a strategy to help us multiply larger numbers. See the example as to what decomposing would look like.

Odds and Ends

  • Conferences:
  • Parent Survey: Please click HERE fill our parent survey use to rate your family's experience at Westlake Charter School during the 2018-19 school year. These questions help us evaluate how we are doing on our current strategic plan.
  • Olympic Triathlon: Our 11th annual Westlake Charter Olympic Triathlon is already off to a great start! Have you created your family donation page yet? Simply visit http://pledgestar.com/westlakecharterwhere you can customize a page with student name(s), a photo and donation goal. It is easy to quickly request sponsors via email or text explaining why WCS is amazing and how they can help us meet our goal this year.

The Triathlon is not just about fundraising. It is about celebrating and supporting our three specialties of Art, Spanish and P.E. which are led by fully credentialed specialty teachers. Our annual Olympic Triathlon allows WCS to celebrate this trifecta and offer our family, friends and community a way to support this work.

On Thursday, November 29th our students will participate in a special day of learning on the Olympic Triathlon Event Day. This day is completely staffed and planned by our parent volunteers alongside some fabulous WCS staff members. We need your help to make this day fun and successful for our school and students. Please be on the lookout for an event day sign up soon. In the meantime, if you would like to get involved with planning please Click HERE and fill out the form to be contacted.
