Here's what we've been up to in D111 this week!

- To wrap up our Native American unit, we have worked on an art project that will be on display during Open House. Ask your child what our art project was!
- Students took a formative assessment on where they are for informational writing. Please remember: formative assessments are just a way for me to "check-in". We will be moving on to opinion writing for the next few weeks before we circle back to narrative and informational writing.

- We have been discussing Geometry in class this week. We specifically discussed quadrilaterals, what makes a shape a quadrilaterals, and the different kinds. See the picture below for the information. The optional worksheet pages went home in your child's Friday Folder this week.

Holiday Book Exchange
Holiday Book Exchange
For this holiday season we will be doing a book exchange in our classroom! Each student will bring in a new or lightly used book to class to give to another student. Please wrap the book and write whom the book is from (you will not know who the book goes to because we will be playing a game to find out which book each student receives.)
Some books I've noticed students are very interested in are: Dogman, Goosebumps, National Geographic for Kids, and any graphic novel!
Please bring the books to our class by Monday, December 17th. We will open them at our holiday celebration on Thursday!

Gingerbread Houses with Buddies
During the holiday season, we are going to decorate gingerbread houses with our little buddies! There are a few items we will need donated in order to complete this project. Please CLICK HERE to sign up!
- Enrichment: Our winter session of AS Live: Enrichment will start Monday, January 7. Click HEREto see class offerings, prices, and links to sign up. Scholarships are available; there is a spot on the sign-up form to indicate that you would like a scholarship. Email live@westlakecharter.com with questions.
- Lottery Application Period: Our enrollment period for the 2019-20 Lottery is December 3, 2018 to January 31, 2019. The application process is digital this year. Visit joinwestlake.com to complete the application starting December 3rd. Please share this information with friends and family who are interested in attending Westlake Charter School. Current students do not need to fill out an application to continue their enrollment at WCS; however, siblings do need to fill out lottery applications to attend.
- Parents go to School Night: Save the Date-January 30th, 2019 5:30-8:00-Parent’s Go to School Night. Our fantastic staff will be presenting on various topics during our annual Parent’s Go to School Night. Save the date to come learn about everything from Math and ELA to Social Emotional Skills. This your chance to learn more about how your student is learning at Westlake Charter & ways to help support them at home.
- AS Live Clubs Volunteers: UPDATE: We have FOUR student-led clubs that simply need an adult supervisor. If you would like to jump on this opportunity (no prep required!!), email Allison Chavez. - Call for Coaches: Families, we're recruiting BASKETBALL and DODGEBALL coaches and referees for our winter season of Explorer Athletics! - Barnes & Noble Bookfair: Our annual Barnes & Noble Bookfair and Family Night will be on Friday, December 7th. Purchase books all day in store and online. Come visit the store from 5:30 - 7:30 for gift wrapping, read alouds by Westlake staff and a holiday craft. If you would like to support the school by volunteering to gift wrap during the day on December 7th, please click HERE.
