Color Wheel Paintings
The 8th graders started off with color wheel paintings, refreshing their minds with primary and secondary colors, as well as learning the analogous colors. My co-operating teacher led this lesson and I finished it with them during their last few work days.

Glaze Test Tiles
After color wheels, 8th grade began to roll slabs, cut and imprint patterns, and poke holes for clay test tiles! I taught students the importance of planning for glazing because results can end up different when glazing fired clay.
Students were tasked to create 12 test tiles; 9 had to have a texture of some sort, two had to have something built atop of it, and the last one was their choice of design/texture. My co-operating teacher thought this was the perfect intro and tool for planning before doing clay letters projects with the students!
Once the tiles were fired, students got to glazing! I made a glaze chart for them to fill out after looking at some different underglazes, and they were asked to choose 5 different glazes for their chart and create different combinations. Students referenced these charts for when they actually got to glazing.
Unfortunately, the test tiles were fired the weekend after my time ended at Edison, so I was unable to finish the tiles with the students. I was not able to see the final results in person but my co-operating teachef finished the lesson with them and said they look great!
