grades 9-12
During the fall of 2023, two peers of mine and myself were fortunate enough to do some pre-service teaching at the secondary level! Katherine Beyer and Cary Ghem accompanied me at Centennial High School, teaching three lessons to high school freshman and upperclassmen. We observed Ms. F's Art Foundations class, as well as her Drawing Studio class, and we taught three lessons revolving around the figure, line, and facial expressions! To prep for secondary placements, we were tasked with creating and teaching a lesson plan based on a chapter from Teaching and Learning in Art Education: Cultivating Students’ Potential from Pre-K Through High School, textbook by Debrah C. Sickler-Voigt. I taught "Chapter 17: The Built Environment" to my fellow teaching artist peers, centering around built structures and designing spaces accessible for all, as well as cozy, safe sapce-making.
Students were asked to create spaces that take them to a state of Koselig, a Norwegian word meaning cozy, whether thats a space from memory, or their imagination taking them to their ultimate koselig state of mind. Click below to view lesson resources below!
