Students had finished off their last projects with my co-operating teacher. They did their reward days the first rotation I was there, and then the next rotation is when I took over and started a new project with them.
Clay Masks
The 5th grade students were introduced to different occassions as to why someone would want to design/wear a mask. Some reasoning is for celebration, to hide an identity, for costumes, a ritual, etc. Students were asked to pick an occasion and begin sketching their mask design onto a variety of mask templates they could chose from.
Students then cut out the general shape of their design, tracing their template overtop of a clay slab, and later addding their detials apart of their designs. Students worked on these for a few days before firig in the killn. Now, students are on their second day of painting their bisque ware using tempra paint! We are still in the process of this project, so students will finish their painting with my co-operating teacher.
