Miss V, made by a 5th grade student in PVOS
Welcome! My name is Victoria, and I am a first-generation college graduate from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, with a BFA in Art Education. I come from the Southeast Side of Chicago and grew up in the Chicago Public Schools education system where an art curriculum was not as common as other elemenetary school experiences.
I have been making art since I could pick up a pencil, and didn't get painting experience until I got to high school. The only thing that defines a true artist is their constant desire to create; all the rest comes through learned skill and practice. I never quite saw myself as an educator, although I knew that I wanted my world to revolve around art. Throughout my pre-service and student teaching experiences, I have realized more the importance of learning and teaching personal expression. It is essential for the youth to get a proper art education curriculum.
These are experiences I wish would've been provided to me as a child. I enjoy working with many different media, but I mainly paint and college. Although I dont have as much time as I used to to make art, I appreciate its process more than anything. The space it takes me away to in my head is unmatched and my hope is to foster this state of being in my art classroom.
