My main concern for the 5th graders was their comfort with acrylic paint. A blank canvas can be intimidating and children being able to explore the medium before they get actual compositions down is one of the most vital parts of art-making. In this lesson, students were encouraged to make any marks and be expressive with the paint, not worrying too much about technical skill.
