Students had finished off their last drawings with my co-operating teacher, textured animal eyes! They did their reward days the first rotation I was there, and then the next rotation is when I took over and started a new project with them.
Clay Textured Dragon Eyes
This lesson was an extension of the animal eye drawings done with my co-operating teacher. The 4th graders began making their air dry clay dragon eyes by first learning the difference between real and implied textures. Then, we sketched out how our dragon eyes are going to look and which textured will be included in our design.
Before the students got their hands on the air dry clay for their final dragon eyes, we practiced some texture techniques with pay-doh first. Students were given a bag full of tools like an aluminum ball, a fork, toothpicks, etc., to try out different textures.
For their final dragon eyes, students were given the freedom to pick a colroed glass eye. Their sculptures required a minimum of three differnt textures, and no bigger than the size of their palm.
