Agamagraphs
The 6th graders started off with agamagraphs, and I finished putting them together with them towards the end of this project. Students were prompted to think of two opposite things for their drawings. One side showed one of their drawings, and the other side showed the opposite drawing. Some examples of contrasting subjects were fire and ice, day and night, and a light bulb lit vs turned off.

Contour Line Watercolor Self Portrait Paintings
6th grade started this project after the agamagraphs. This lesson plan is my own creation. Students practiced for quite a few days using the different contour line techniques before actually drawing themselves using the techniques.
practicing with fruit & objects
practicing with partners
practicing in our zines
practicing on mirrors
Students were prompted to draw from my example image first, fruit. After, they continued to practice drawing using different images they found, or using objects from life, or partnering up and drawing each other! Students were also introduced to zines! They made their own as a mini sketchbook for more practice with drawing facial features. Students found different faces/people in a variety of magazines, cut them out, and drew over them, applying the contour line techniques. For the last set of practice before finalizing their drawn layer for painting, students used mirrors and were instructed to look into them carefully holding still, and drawing over their faces/features using one or more of the contour line techniques we've practiced.
Students practicing some watercolor techniques before painting their final portrait.
Students completing their drawn layer with at least one contour line technique before outlining all pencil marks in sharpie and painting overtop with the different watercolor techniques!
For the painting and final layer, students were asked to use at least 3/8 of the different watercolor techniques we practiced on their portraits!

Felt Stuffies
After the watercolor paintings, the 6th graders started to sketch their felt stuffies! After some sketching, we practiced some sewing techniques, trying out the whip stitch, back stitch, and the running stitch. Students need to make sure they know how to use the needles safely and correctly before beggining to attach their pieces together. Once students could do all three stitches, they proceeded to cut out their felt, and start to sew them together based on their sketches. My co-operating teaching started to take the class back in the middle of this project, as my time at Edison Middle School was approaching the end.
