"Self Obsessed Cat"
I wanted to do a drawing from real life that had something that constantly moved, so I decided to draw my cat laying on my bed. My medium for this work was charcoal. I started with sketching out the general shape of the cat, then darkening values in areas such as his nose and the inside of his ears to give him depth. I added the sketchbook with more charcoal, then drew in the toy next to the cat, along with the plastic bag and laptop. I added a midtone around these objects to give the blanket a darker value, then added more layers of charcoal to show the folds in the blanket. I wanted to add the dresser, desk, and chair, to help complete this drawing. Like the rest of the drawing, I started by roughly outlining the shape of each of the background objects, and then adding a midtone, then darkening up certain areas to make the objects look more three dimensional.
