These are a set of blue and white plates made for the blue and white workshop to address cultural appropriation. These plates are made to tell the story of my two cats becoming closer and are based on pictures I have taken of them. The plates themselves are made with slab work. I used a needle tool to trace out the shape of the plate before pinching the edges of the plate to give it a better shape. I also used a separate slab to cut out the sunflowers. After it was fired to bisque, I painted in each of the pictures with a blue underglaze before firing again. With the plate on the right, I dipped my finger into the underglaze and pressed it into the plate to create a heart shape. After the second firing, a clear coat was added to make it food safe.
