ART 171
Elements + Principles Collages
Exemplar.
For the elements of art collage, my theme was bugs. For the principles of art collage, I chose to use culinary themed photographs. I used the crop tool and the move tool to arrange the pictures. I tried kerning by manually spacing out the letters in each of the words for both collages.
Five Line Designs
tri (2024)
For my five line designs, I practiced using the pen tool and changing the fill and stroke of the line. Some of the projects such as the first, third, and fifth one are based on color schemes from logos and paintings.
Still Life
Edited.
Unedited.
This still life was arranged with the idea of introducing myself. It includes objects I've had for a long time, achievements, things I use in my daily life, and generally things I enjoy. When arranging it, I decided the composition would be a triangular one with a lot of overlapping objects to give it more visual interest. I used the stamp tool to clear the background of anything distracting and the burn tool to darken the background. The hue and saturation was adjusted to give it an overall warm tone.
Inspired by Film Photographs
birdie (2024)
Inspired by Jennifer's Body
I edited the picture to add a hint of green and positioned the owl in a third of the frame like the original scene.
swim (2024)
Inspired by Pearl
The subject is centered in the photograph similar to the original scene referenced. I took the blue from the character's eyeshadow and applied it to this photo.
dive (2024)
Inspired by The Little Mermaid
The rule of thirds was very prominent in the original scene, so I rotated this picture to reflect that. I adjusted the hue of the photo to make it appear blue, then blurred the center of the picture.
Exemplar.
ephemeral (2024)
Inspired by Jennifer's Body
The high contrast between the blue and darker values in the original scene caught my eye, so I wanted to adjust this photo to mimic that by changing the hue to a blue color.

Typography
"united and separated" antonym typography (2024)
11 x 11 in
For the antonym typography, I decided to separate the word "united" by rasterizing the layer and using the selection tool to separate the two halves of the word. I used the line tool, along with clipping masks and alpha lock to recolor the word.
"chomp" synonym typography (2024)
11 in x 11 in
I colored the word "chomp" to resemble a chocolate chip cookie, then used the brush tool to make it look like there were bites taken out of it.
11 x 11 in
"alert" synonym typography (2024)

"erased" synonym typography (2024)

Posters
typicality (2024)
Inspired by the style of Kruger's work and Paris Paloma's album "Cacophony." I took a picture of my hand holding an apple and knife, cropped it to center it, then edited the photo to make it black and white. I added three red rectangles using the rectangle and changed the fill and stroke to a red color. I chose a serif font and colored it white.
Kubo Poster (2024)
This was made in Illustrator. I took an image from one of the scenes and traced over it with the pen tool. I used the circle tool and then created lines extending from the circle.
Constructivist Photos
These are photos that have been edited to focus on high contrast and modern invention. For some of these, I wanted to find some unconventional viewpoints to take photos from.
Logo Work
My logo was created in Illustrator. it is for a business that focuses on creating emotes for online chats. I made a few other versions that are more text based, but ended up going with a mix of a wordmark and mascot logo type. There are also a few versions with different colors and backgrounds.
Collage
phthisis (2024)
For this collage, I used pictures from Pexels and some vector graphics made in Illustrator to create this collage about overconsumption. For the images from Pexels, I used the selection brush tool and the magnetic selection tool to select the figures and items in each photo. I decided to have the items arranged along a diagonal line from the bottom left to the top right.
Digital Painting
diner (2024)
original photo
I created this in ibisPaint by sketching over the shapes , then blocking in the colors. I used different layer modes like multiply, add, and overlay.
Initial practice with digital painting.
