These vases are made from a mixture of coils and slabs. The base of the vase was done with coils, then smoothed out on the inside and outside with the thumb tool. For the center part of the vase, I continued with the coils but left them unsmoothed. Then I rolled out a slab and attached it to the coils. Since the slab seemed unsteady when I added it on top of the coils, I rolled out another coil and attached it around the base of the slab for more stability. Once the slab and coils were attached, I used a wet sponge to smooth out the clay before using a dotting tool to add various textures around the vase. I also ended up using the scoring tool to add texture as well. Once the clay was fired, I added a high fire glaze. On the bottom of the vases, I made a design out of wax, so that when glazed, it would repel the glaze into that design. I added some acrylic paint on the bottom to finish it and make it look like a sunflower.
