Open Access Scheduling

To allow for better access for our patients, same day appointments are available for routine follow up, health maintenance, and urgent care. After intern year, roughly 50% of each afternoon session is “same day” slots.

Consider making dot phrases such as “.WINGRA” “.WINGRAFAX” and “.WINGRAPHONE” to pull up the clinic address, fax number, and phone number, quickly when documenting in a chart

"Staffer=Teacher=Preceptor"

There will be 1-2 faculty assigned to supervise you (and the clinic) for each “session” (= half day in clinic)

Available for any questions you have, not just the patients you are seeing right now, but also Inbasket questions, patients you saw before and are still pondering, phone call/refill questions…

Prestaff (run through your patient lists) at beginning of each session to anticipate level 4 patients, procedures, challenges, scheduling issues, etc.

Behavioral Health Consultants (BHC)

The people you never knew you couldn’t live without!!!

Assist with: mental health, sleep hygiene, behavior modification/motivational interviewing, stress management, etc.

Find psychologist/LCSW on duty – either in staffing room or in patient room with grey flag turned in (“3 knocks” on door will inform them of help needed)

Give a PHQ-9/GAD-7, if appropriate, while patient is waiting. Ask your MA to do this during the huddle if you anticipate it will be needed

Ask for printed copy of most recent updated list or look for it in the "J" drive (this changes frequently)
