UNSW has a number of mandatory training courses which are required to completed as part of being enrolled as a student, or working at UNSW. For all staff (fixed and casual), there are three compulsory modules:

For all students working in research labs (Undergraduate Project students, Honours, and PhD students), the following modules are mandatory:

Lab Health and Safety
Depending on the nature of the research conducted, the following modules will also be required
Fume Cupboards & Safety
Hazardous Chemicals - for all students working with hazardous chemicals
Biological Lab Safety - for all students working in a PC1, PC2, or PC3 lab
Cryogenic Safety - for all students working with cryogens (e.g. liquid nitrogen, dry ice)
Hydrothermal Pressure Vessels (HTPV) - for all students working with hydrothermal pressure vessels
Use of Sharps - for all students working with sharps (e.g. needles, scalpels)

Please note, if you fall into both student and staff categories (e.g. PhD student working as a lab demonstrator), you will need to complete the compulsory modules for both Staff and Students!
