Compulsory 2.1

To complete this module you must read and declare as read the SWPs listed below, and pass the quiz with a score of 85% or better. 

This module consists of the following SWPs which should be declared as read in the quiz.

1. SCI-CHEMSCI-SWP-7053 – Basic Laboratory Safety in the School of Chemistry

2. SCI-CHEMSCI-SWP-6721 – Selection of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

3. SCI-CHEMSCI-SWP-203 –  Use of Emergency Eyewash and Safety Showers

The following supplementary materials are available for this module:

• Emergency Procedures

• Emergency Procedures poster

• Glove chemical permeation poster

• Glove ordering codes

• Safety shower and eyewash testing log sheet

The Compulsory 2 modules cover all requirements of the HS049 induction which is used for Laboratories at UNSW, with the following exceptions:

• Face-to-face introduction to area First Aid Officer(s)

• Face-to-face introduction to area Fire/Floor Warden(s)

• Specific locations of safety and emergency equipment (spill kits, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, safety showers, eyewash stations, emergency stop buttons, etc.)

• Any special laboratory requirements (e.g. laser lab training, PC2 requirements, etc.)

To gain access to laboratories, users must:

1. Complete this module and any relevant building-specific sub-modules:

   • Compulsory 2.1.1 - Basic Laboratory Safety in Chemical Sciences (F10) and Dalton (F12)

   • Compulsory 2.1.2 - Basic Laboratory Safety in Hilmer (E10)

   • Compulsory 2.1.3 - Basic Laboratory Safety in SEB (E8)

2. Complete the remaining Compulsory 2 modules:

   • Compulsory 2.2 - Chemical classification, labelling and storage

   • Compulsory 2.3 - Chemical spills and waste disposal

   • Compulsory 2.4 - Safety documentation

3. Complete a face-to-face induction and the HS049 Induction Form to cover the points noted above and any other items that may be unclear

4. Complete the School of Chemistry Access Form

5. Submit the HS049 and Access Forms to chemistry.admin@unsw.edu.au
