The most important part of the housing tour is to NEVER refer to a Residence Hall as a "dorm." A dorm room brings to mind a stereotypical boring room from movies. A Residence Hall encompasses all things living on campus--study rooms, community areas, dining, etc.
When the session time has come, and it is time to begin:
Moderator (LC or designated ambassador) will welcome guests as they individually join and let them know that you are waiting for some more guests to trickle in. Once all guests have joined or if its been 5 minutes since the start time, then transition to the official welcome:
“Hello! Good Morning/Afternoon, My name is __________ and I’m a _____________ Major. I’m from___________ (City/State) and a proud member of the class of 20__! GO COOGS! We’re super excited that you are visiting campus with us virtually! Throughout your visit, we will be showing you the housing options available to you on campus, and would like to answer any questions that you may have. With that being said, if you could share your video and your audio, this would be a great way for you to get that full virtual experience. Test it out and go ahead and introduce yourself by telling us your name, what career or major you're interested in, and a fun fact about yourself! [you can start it off to ease the guests to do theirs, wait for intros. have small conversation by relating to some of the stuff they may say if applicable]
Great! Well we are going to get started, and I wanted to let you know that we are totally interruptable! Or in other words, I promise you can interrupt me at any point and my feelings won’t be hurt and I won’t think you're rude. We want you to get all of your questions about UH, housing, and the student experience here at UH answered today to help you through your college search process! With all of that said, let’s go ahead and get started!”
Throughout the tour these are ways to encourage guest engagement on the virtual tour:
Ask them questions periodically:
Have you applied yet or are currently in the application process? Do you have any questions about the application process?
Answer questions if you are able to, feel free to share screens and take them to the admissions page.
You can encourage them to sign up for admissions presentations on our website.
Are you interested in living on campus?
Share housing life experiences that you have had or that you know and can share
Will you be commuting to UH?
Share your commuter experiences or the experiences/facts that you know and can share
Mention Commuter Services and meal plan options
So what extracurricular activities or hobbies do you take part in?
If you share a similar hobby express it!
Maybe mention specific clubs/organizations if you know about them
How they are passing the time during these stay at home orders?
Share with them ways you have been passing time
Do you have any TV shows or movie recommendations?
How are your schools handling being closed? Are your classes online?
Share with them your experience and how UH is handling things.
Are you all on Tik Tok? If so, what is your favorite trending Tik Tok?
When ending the call the moderator should say the following:
“Well that concludes our virtual housing tour, are there any questions? If there are no more questions, then I would like to conclude our virtual housing visit by saying thank you for joining us! We enjoyed sharing our experience here at UH and our campus with you. If you have any other questions, feel free to join us for an Ask Me Anything session or register to be called by a UH Ambassador. Thanks again for your time! Have a great day, stay safe, and go Coogs! To leave this session you can close out of the window, or find the leave meeting button on the bottom right hand of your screen. Bye guys!”
Wait for all guests to leave before you leave, and then you all can discuss how it went and then leave and clock out!
