Spirit of Houston

The Spirit of Houston is the largest spirit organization at the University of Houston. 300+ members strong, The Spirit of Houston is comprised of the Cougar Marching Band, Color Guard, Twirlers, Cheerleaders, Mascots, Frontiersmen, and the Cougar Dolls Dance Team. No matter your major, age, or experience level, there is a place for you in our program!

Marching Band

The Cougar Marching Band performs at all home football games and travels to select away games throughout the football season. The “Spirit of Houston” performs for athletic games, community performances, private parties, pep rallies, parades, and other events. You do not have to be a music major to join the band.

Cougar Dolls

The Cougar Dolls Dance Team is an integral part of the Spirit of Houston. Their main purpose is to entertain, energize and inspire at designated University of Houston athletic contests and promotional events. The University of Houston Dance Team consists of approximately 16-23 members. The team covers all home football and men and women's basketball games.

Cheerleading

While our main priority is to support our athletic program, we also participate in many community outreach events. The Spirit of Houston cheer team typically goes to 175+ appearances including games, pep rallies, and community events. At the end of your college career, every cheerleader will be able to walk away to from not only a degree that will guarantee them a job, but with pride, friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.

Mascots

Shasta and Sasha are the official mascots of the University of Houston!

Frontiersman

They were established in 1948 to promote Cougar spirit. The Frontiersmen's primary purpose is to support UH in any and all endeavors. Their three main areas of concentration are athletics, school spirit and Frontier Fiesta.

Twirlers

The University of Houston Feature Twirlers are an integral part of the Spirit of Houston, which is the largest spirit organization at the University of Houston.

Color Guard

We perform at all home football games & possible bowl games! As well as parades in the local Houston area. Along side our football game/parade performances, we also participate in the university's Spirit on Stage and showcase what we do best!

How to Contact the Spirit of Houston?

Brass and Woodwinds: We do not require an audition for brass and woodwind members at this time. Piccolos, Clarinets, Trumpets, and Trombones audition for part assignments at the beginning of our Summer Band Week.
