UH Teacher Education Program is committed to providing you with a sucessful and rewarding experience as you grow in your teaching skill, knowledge and talent. An impressive 95% of students who finished our teacher preparation program passed the state TExES certification exam in 2016.
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate Degrees & Majors as well as course work for teacher certification. The Department offers a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction, a 51-hour Ed.D. in Curriculum & Instruction, a 66-hour Ed.D program which is no longer accepting applications, a 30-hour M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction, a 36-hour M.ED. in Curriculum & Instruction, and a B.S. in Teaching & Learning.
Full-time faculty members teach and conduct research in a broad range of subject areas including mathematics education, science education, social education/social studies, art education, early childhood education, learning, design & technology, and teaching.
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction prepares teachers and other educators to meet the special demands of educational, health, cultural, and other human service settings. The UH Teacher Education Program at the University of Houston has received the Distinguished Program in Teacher Education Award from the Association of Teacher Educators - the only competitive award for excellence in teacher education in the United States.
The Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies (ELPS) in the College of Education at the University of Houston strives to be among the nation's premier departments of graduate study for the development, management, and evaluation of K-20 educational organizations. And as such, faculty and staff prepare aspiring educational leaders who will develop innovative, efficient, and socially just educational policy solutions through collaborative research, praxis, and practice activities. In addition, ELPS faculty and staff continuously maintain – and pursue – mutually beneficial school, district, college, university, legislative, and corporate partnerships to improve educational environments, organizations, and learning outcomes for all students.

Every undergraduate student in the College of Education is assigned an advisor to guide them. The College also has a student success coach, and our Personal Early Educational Performance Support, or PEEPS, program offers mentoring, tutoring, a food pantry and other services.
Students have the opportunity to take study abroad trips led by College of Education faculty, including a two-week cultural program in China and a global health-focused trip to the Dominican Republic.
Graduates of the College of Education join the incredible UH alumni network. As an example, 95% of our teaching graduates stay in the Houston area after graduation, making them a powerful force for transformation in local schools.
