Kerr Lake State Recreation Area

Kerr Lake State Recreation Area is comprised of seven areas totaling over 3000 acres in Vance and Warren counties along the shore of Kerr Lake in North Carolina. Kerr Lake is a 50,000-acre man-made lake along the Roanoke River in North Carolina and Virginia. In Virginia, the lake is often called Bugg's Island Lake. The John H. Kerr Dam was constructed from 1947 to 1952 by the US Army Corps of Engineers to create the lake. The dam and lake are named for John H. Kerr, a North Carolina Congressman who pushed for the construction of the lake. The state recreation contains hundreds of campsites, swim beaches, boat ramps and other recreational amenities at the seven access areas on the North Carolina side of the lake.
