Florida Waterfalls

Florida is one of the flattest states and certainly doesn't have many waterfalls. But it does have a lot of sinkholes and one of these makes for an unusually high waterfall given the terrain.

Falling Waters Sink is a 72-foot waterfall in Washington County, the highest in Florida. It is located in Falling Waters State Park. The hike to the falls is just a short easy walk on a concrete walkway. There is a $5 per car fee to enter the park.

To visit the falls, head towards Chipley on I-10 and take exit 120. Go south on FL-77 towards Panama City Beach for just under a mile and turn left on State Park Road. Go 1.7 miles to the park entrance station. After paying admission, go another half mile to the main parking. A concrete walkway at the southwest end of the parking area that leads a short ways to the waterfall.

The water falls 72 feet into a sinkhole and then disappears underground, eventually flowing into the Florida Aquifer.
