Roan Mountain

Roan Mountain is an area of Pisgah National Forest in Mitchell and Avery counties on the North Carolina side of the mountain. The Roan Mountain Zone of Cherokee National Forest protects much of the Tennessee side of the mountain. The area features the world's largest natural rhododendron garden, three peaks over 6000 feet, and one of the most beautiful sections of the Appalachian Trail.
