La Paz Waterfall (Catarata de la Paz in Spanish) is a 120-foot waterfall on Rio de la Paz. The waterfall is located in Alajuela province right along the side of the road.
To visit the falls from San José, head towards Alajuela and the airport and take the Alajuela exit. Go through Alajuela and go right at the fork to get on Route 130. Go 12 miles and turn right at the intersection towards Poás Volcano. In Poasito, turn right and go one mile, then turn left in Vara Blanca. It's about four miles to the waterfall, or a mile past the La Paz Waterfall Gardens. Although admission is required to visit the gardens, this roadside waterfall is free to visit.
