Science helps students make sense of the world around them. In Years 9 and 10, students explore how science applies to everyday life while deepening their understanding in key areas: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth and Space Science. They’ll also investigate Science as a Human Endeavour—learning how science is shaped by people, society, and discoveries over time. Through hands-on experiments and inquiry-based learning, students build their skills in scientific thinking, problem-solving, and research. This foundation supports informed decision-making when choosing VCE Science subjects in the future.
Every student must complete at least one Science elective in Year 9 and one in Year 10. Students will be able to select from one or more of the following electives: Change Over Time, Mysterious Universe, Chemistry Investigation, Forensic Science, Inside Out: Brain, Body and Behaviour, Physics Investigation and STEM: Imagining the future.
Note:
All Year 9 and 10 subjects contribute to VCE pathways. The flowchart presents typical subject progressions that align with specific VCE Units.
