Year 10 Mathematics for Methods is designed to extend and help to prepare you for VCE Mathematical Methods, VCE Specialist Mathematics, VCE Chemistry and/or VCE Physics. We will delve into advanced concepts, including functions, calculus, and circular functions, using them as powerful tools to model and understand the dynamics of change in the world around us. You'll gain crucial background knowledge as well as an insight into the rigour and high expectations of VCE.
This subject is designed for mathematically inclined students with strong algebraic skills, as the academic demands are high. To succeed, you should be achieving consistent results of a “B+” or higher in Year 9 Mathematics. This course is not recommended for students achieving below a B+ average in assessments in Year 9.
Students intending to study Year 11 VCE Mathematical Methods and/or VCE Specialist Mathematics must choose this stream.
Calculators In Year 10 and VCE Mathematics
All Year 10 students will require a scientific calculator, which should be retained from Year 9. In addition, all students in the Year 10 General or the Methods streams will require a Texas Instruments TI-Nspire II CAS Calculator (cost approx $250).
