Gustav-Walle-Mittelschule

Gustav-Walle-Schule is located in the north of Würzburg. Since June 2015, our district has been included in the federal state program "Social City", whose goal is it to improve building infrastructure in order to increase the quality of the housing in the district and thus to create an attractive, friendly living environment. Another focus is on the educational institutions which should support participate actively. Gustav-Walle-Schule has been involved with service learning since 2015 and is connected to different networks, e. g. the LdE- Service Learning foundation headquarters in Berlin. Service Learning is a teaching-learning style that combines social engagement of students with professional learning. Our students implement charitable projects with engagement partners in the neighborhood or community and become active in the social, environmental, political or cultural issues that move them. In addition we are a member of “Initiative Young Researchers” (IJF) with a focus on STEM subjects and partners of the “MINT Region Mainfranken”, a network that coordinates STEM programs. Since 2011 we are a “media reference school” and use modern technologies in the classroom such as Smartboards, computer rooms and a first IPad class set. In addition we have also registered with eTwinning and gained initial impressions at the last conference in Warsaw. A team of about 30 teachers, a social worker and several afternoon supervisors take care of over 260 students. There are a lot of migrants from Eastern European countries, from Turkey, Russia and Asian countries, meanwhile also quite a number of refugees from Syria or Afghanistan join our multicultural community of students, a melting pot of around 30 different nationalities. Our school supports especially practical skills and offers an intensive careers guidance to help the students find good apprenticeships and well-paid jobs.
