Institut Ciutat de Balaguer

On the 22nd and 23rd November 2019 there was an important food collection campaign in Catalonia and so our school decided to participate doing our bit.

Some students from 3rd ESO ( 14-15 years old) participated on Friday morning distributing plastic bags to the costumers in two different supermarkets in our city and then collecting them again full of food.In this way the students acknowledged the importance of being generous and volunteering to improve society.

A very nice and interesting experience.We'll surely participate again next year!

The week before Christmas some students from 3rd ESO participating in the S.O.S project went to different primary schools to tell classic tales in English to students who were from 7-9 years old.These tales had been previously worked on in the English class and so there was a link with the English concepts and a service to the community ( Service Learning).Teenagers and kids have enjoyed this experience while practising communicative skills in English.

3.STRUCTURE TO PLANT AN ORCHARD

As part of our Green School Project some students participating in the Social Online Service have built a structure so that the students with special needs of our school can plant an orchard in it. Thank you so much!

4. ENGLISH FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE

As part of their service learning and S.O.S Erasmus+ Project our 3rd ESO students go to one of the town's Senior Social Club last year we went there to teach the elderly people how to use the mobile phone this year our purpose is to teach them some English words and expressions for travelling.The students have previously prepared some games and worksheets so that the elderly people have fun while they are learning.The students will volunteer up to the end of May on Wednesdays from 10 to 11 .What an enrichment activity for our students!

Our school has previously done some service learning with this town's Senior Social Club , last year teaching them how to use mobile phones.

5.SOCIAL PERFORMANCE IN THE SCHOOL

For 2 years now, our high school has been involved in the “aquiproubullying Project". The aim of this Project is to improve our relation and eliminate any bullying and cyberbullying situations.

One of the highlights this February is the social performance that the 3rd and 4th ESO students (some of whom are S.O.S participants) presented in front of 1st ESO students audience.

The play recreated different bullying situations that teenagers may live in the high school. In each situation, there is a debate with the students who do the play and the 1st ESO students. Then, these spectators explained how the story ends and why it should change. So, the 3rd and 4th students represented the situation again with come volunteers from the audience, this time, with the chosen end.

The purpose of this activity is to be able to strengthen different visions of bullying situations and to create reflection and awareness among the students themselves, always working with real activities and where the students are the main characters.

6.PLOGGING DAY

During the week of the European waste reduction on the 21st Desember 2021 our students in 1st ESO participated in the 1st plogging day organised by Ins Ciutat de Balaguer.First af all, students watched an introductory video to learn about the origins and the importance of plogging and prepared some posters to advertise the plogging event.The participants in the plogging went around some areas in our city picking up different types of litter.The aim of this activity was to combine sport and the need to be environmentally friendly fostering social and personal skills in this way.
