MS Pleichach-Kürnachtal

As part of our S. O. S. project, the students visited various organizations to inform them about the project and to identify any needs. Various customers could be won in the first attempt.

1 Principal of MS Pleichach- Kürnachtal

The middle school Pleichach-Kürnachtal was created this school year as a school network from the two schools Unterpleichfeld and Estenfeld. For this reason, the school needs a new logo. The school management asked S. O. S. to organize a call for a new logo and then determine the winner by means of a student online vote. The students involved in the project created an advertising poster for this purpose and prepared an online vote after the suggestions had been received.

2 After-school care center

The supervisors of the daycare center approached the participants of the S. O. S. project after they were made aware of the project by means of an advertising poster and reported the need for tutoring. As a result, some students agreed to provide tutoring for the elementary school students

3 Flyer S. O. S.

The students created flyers to present the project and make people aware of it. With these flyers the students go to the municipalities and public institutions such as old people's homes and kindergartens. There they present the project and display the flyers. These should also be displayed with an additional poster in public buildings, banks or shops.

In the further course, the flyers will be more specialized with an additional insert.

4 Presentation S. O. S.

The students created a PowerPoint presentation to present the S. O. S. project at school and to interested communities or public institutions.

5 Cooperation: Choir project with music and theater at retirement home

The choir project at the Pleichach-Kürnachtal middle school has been an integral part of music lessons since the school year 2018/19. Thankfully, this project is supported and financed by the International Foundation for Culture and Civilization in Munich. In the last school year, the project was started by year 5 teachers Sandra Anderl-Schott and Kerstin Grebner.

The basics were further expanded in the current school year. The new international Erasmus project “S. O. S. - Social Online Service” of our school has been included by project manager and colleague Eva Knüttel since autumn 2019. That way it was possible to establish a cooperation between our school, the international foundation, the municipal company in the Würzburg district and the three senior institutions in our school district. Funding is provided by the European Union and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.

Since October 2019 year 6 pupils have been working on a Christmas musical with choir teacher Olesja Eckert. Every week, there was intensive rehearsal, the vocal training continued and the vocal implementation was refined. The class teachers worked on the scenic implementation and practiced intensively right up to the performance. One highlight for the classes was the final rehearsal of their musical "Eddi and the Christmas ball" in the senior center and in the day care Estenfeld on Tuesday, December 17th, 2019.

Another successful event was the performance in front of the entire primary school and classes 5-8 at the Christmas party. Despite enormous stage fright, the students were able to show what they are capable of.

It was great that some of the students even dared to take on singing roles as solo parts.

The performances were further enriched by preludes by the piano students, who are taught by Mr. Jochen Eckert.

The festival concert on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 will be another highlight of this project, in addition to further visits to the surrounding senior citizen centers.

6 Estenfeld municipality

Benches for public places. Seating area for the garden in the kindergarten

The municipality made an inquiry to the school as to whether it would be ready to produce benches or tables and benches for the kindergarten and selected places in town. This task is carried out in the crafts room by the pupils together with the responsible teacher.

7 Job fair in Unterpleichfeld

On January 30, 2020, the MS Pleichach-Kürnachtal organized a job fair .

At this information evening, 32 local and national companies and institutions presented various training professions to more than 200 students and their parents. Over a period of two hours, the young people had the opportunity to get information from the participating companies in the fields of crafts, trade and commerce and services about the professional opportunities and requirements.

Due to the wide range of all career paths that are shown, the students received new ideas for their professional future on this evening and can plan them successfully.

8 Project "Medieval knights camp"

Medieval knights camp at Burggrumbach Castle (1.5.2020 – 3.5.2020)

Since May 2018 there has been a reenactment of a medieval knight camp in Burggrumbach Castle once a year. During these events, visitors can get a glimpse into the life of knights and farmers. The organizers have asked students from our school to contribute to the 2020 event. Our students will make some of the exhibits needed for the event during their hands-on class. In addition, a group of students will help create an herb garden that will contain many plants that were used by people in the Middle Ages (medicinal plants, coloring plants).

Medieval dye plant garden

In March 2020, the students of the Erasmus group started to create a dye plant garden based on a medieval model in Grumbach Castle. In addition to the necessary garden work (weeding, soil cultivation, sowing), a medieval fence was woven from willow branches. These plants were looked after and cared for over the summer. At the beginning of the current school year, the next step was the harvest. During this event, the pupils harvested parts of the dyer's chamomile, woad and flax fibers and removed weeds again. The harvested products were dried and are now to be used for dyeing tests on fabrics (mainly wool). At the same time, the students created an information brochure with details about the origin, appearance and use of different dye plants.

Burggrumbach Castle Garden 2021

Initiated by the first joined action, the dyer's garden, of the MS Unterpleichfeld with the coordinators of the castle festival, the external appearance of the castle has changed a lot. Together with the students of the 6th grades and especially the many volunteers from the surrounding area, hedges have now been cleared and a huge theme garden has been created around the castle, which is freely accessible to all and can be visited at any time. In this garden the history of the former inhabitants is presented. For example, in one garden, the plants were arranged according to the journey of the crusaders, with plants from Europe to faraway Asia.

This garden will continue to be maintained and cared for by the students of the middle school in the following years.

9 Apple campaign in the Unterpleichfeld middle school

The Pleichach-Kürnachtal Middle School in Unterpleichfeld has been involved in an Erasmus + project since last year. The topic of this project is social engagement, that means social commitment in school and generally for the fellow citizens of the community. Exactly in the spirit and purpose of this project Mr Mais requested whether the school, due to lack of personal needs, would not harvest the apples from his fruit trees. Together with the class teachers of the 5th and 6th grade, the students set out to clear a number of apple trees with the support of older students who are participating in the project. The young farm workers had a lot of fun doing this very unfamiliar and strenuous work for schoolchildren, and some apples did not make their way into the apple press, but disappeared in a pupil's stomach. Finally, the collected apples were transported to the local juicer and used there. The juice produced in this way will benefit the students of the bound and open full-time this school year. In the end, this “social commitment” even had several winners: emptied apple trees, relieved fruit tree owners and schoolchildren who were allowed to enjoy the sweet apple juice.

10 Afforestation of the Unterpleichfeld community forest

The community of Unterpleichfeld is planning to plant 5,000 young trees in its community forest. These should be a regulating mix of different types of construction, including Douglas fir, yew and cherry. With this project, the community also turned to the Pleichach-Kürnachtal Middle School and asked for support. As part of the Erasmus+ S.O.S. project, the pupils will now help with the reforestation and "plant their own tree", so to speak. It is also planned that the technical groups at the Pleichach-Kürnachtal Middle School will build and set up simple wooden benches.

11 Christmas surprise in the day care centre in Kürnach and Estenfeld

Social engagement in the community, retirement homes, kindergartens and associations are the goals of the pupils of the MS Pleichach-Kürnachtal in the context of their international Erasmus project "Social Online Service - S. O S.". However, Covid-19 brought many things to an abrupt halt. Senior citizens in particular suffer at this time because they are rarely or never allowed to see their relatives and are therefore alone at Christmas. The students did not want to accept this and started a Christmas project. In art lessons they designed their own Christmas cards, in economics and IT they created an Advent calendar with Christmas and Advent poems and in practical lessons they made fairy lights. A particularly nice idea of the organising project team was that the Christmas cards for the senior citizens could be personalised for each resident in cooperation with the care service. Thus, each resident received their own handwritten card with a poem, a personal Christmas greeting and an artistic decoration. Mrs Lamprecht, head of the day care centre in Estenfeld, describes the reaction as follows: "With tears in their eyes, the nursing staff were hugged as representatives for all the dear artists from the Unterpleichfeld school!"

But the "presents" came not only in analogue form, but also digitally, which is especially important in these times. As an additional highlight, the school band recorded four different Christmas songs together with the choir. Other pupils read out Christmas poems and one group even practised a Christmas dance, all of course in strict compliance with the Corona hygiene measures. The homes received these contributions digitally on USB sticks so that they could show it to their residents on the big TV screen more than once.

Unfortunately, the students could not personally see the joy of the seniors over the pre-Christmas presents and greetings, but the pictures say more than words.

And all pupils and colleagues agree: We'll do it again next year, without Corona!

12 Construction of a wooden locomotive with wagons for kindergarten

The technical groups of the Pleichach-Kürnachtal middle school are planning a kindergarten project together with their teacher Mr. Michalzik as part of the school's social commitment. They want to make a railroad out of logs and boards for the outside area of the kindergarten in Unterpleichfeld. Hopefully this run will give the little ones a lot of fun when the weather is nice.

13 Christmas campaign 2021 in the old people's homes in the neighbourhood of MS Pleichach-Kürnachtal

The goal of the S.O.S. project is to reach out to more and more people in the neighborhood, to offer services and to provide them as well. Spurred on by the success of last year's Christmas campaign, it was decided to tackle such an event again this year. This time the action should be extended to several old people's homes in the surrounding area. The students collected ideas and so it was decided not only to make Advent calendars and personalized Christmas cards for the day care centres in Estenfeld and Kürnach and the senior citizen centres in Kürnach and Bergtheim, but also to provide more activities for the seniors in Corona times.

Nearly every student at the school lovingly wrote and painted a personal Christmas message for a specific resident. The school’s economy studies group made an Advent calendar to sing along to, and the technology and crafts groups made indoor bowling games out of tennis ball cans and large ludo games out of wood in class. But not only material gifts were to please the residents. Therefore, a CD was also created, on which Christmas carols were sung and poems were read by students.

All these gifts were given to the facilities at Christmas. Unfortunately, due to Corona, the students were again unable to present their work and delight the residents with their songs and rehearsed poems themselves.
