PDCA Experiment Planner
for Lesson 4’s problem-solving activity, designed for immediate use with the restaurant case study.
A PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) Experiment Planner is a structured tool for systematically testing and refining process improvements through iterative planning, execution, and evaluation.
Have you ever found yourself questioning the need for a change, even before understanding it fully?
When faced with something new, what's your initial reaction – curiosity or caution?
How much does your personal experience or comfort level influence your view on proposed changes?
Understanding and Addressing Resistance to Change Through Critical Thinking
Resistance to change is common in both organizations and personal life. This analysis uses the AIM Framework (Assess Objectively, Identify Biases, Make a Decision) to explore layers of resistance—from lack of awareness to deep distrust. By examining the cognitive barriers behind each layer, the framework helps develop targeted strategies to effectively manage and overcome resistance.
Outer Layer (Surface Resistance – Awareness)
I don't understand why we need to change.
→ Lack of Awareness (Not seeing the need for change)
Second Layer (Emotional Resistance – Intentionality)
I don’t agree with how this change is being done.
→ Lack of Intentionality (Disconnected from the purpose or method)
Third Layer (Personal Resistance – Method)
I don’t like how this change affects me.
→ Conflict with Method (Personal discomfort with execution)
Fourth Layer (Deep-Seated Resistance – Fixed Mindset)
I don’t like change in general.
→ Lack of Adaptability (Fixed mindset overriding critical thinking)
Core Layer (Hostile Resistance – Defensiveness)
I don’t trust the people leading this change.
→ Emotional Barrier (Resistance rooted in distrust, not logic)
Connection to the AIM Framework
1. Awareness → Resistance stems from not understanding the why behind change.
2. Intentionality → Resistance grows when people don’t see how the change aligns with goals.
3. Method → Resistance solidifies if the execution feels unfair or poorly managed.
