Consumerism, as well as being unable due to a welfare income to afford the best price for quality products, ends up with a considerable number of products being broken or in less than optimal condition. When I begin to think about my broken equipment, so much comes to my mind. I will, therefore, go into detail about all the broken equipment that I have, what happened to the equipment, and how much it would cost me to fix this equipment.
The equipment that is addressed below is a combination of personal and professional equipment (that would be useful in the companies that I am trying to run), although since these companies do not earn any income, the expenses are covered from my own pocket. The professional equipment belongs to my companies:
Noodzakelijk Online
Preptalk
Ferione
Firespace
My personal phone has several issues, both physical and software-related.
I am very happy with my Sony Experia Z3. However, I have an obnoxious camera issue that I have no possibility of being able to solve. The only thing I haven’t tried is the phone repair shop, but I do not dare because of the cost and uncertainty of whether it can be t can be repaired.
Having a smartboard is such a game-changer. This Prowise PW-65V02+ with an integrated computer has a lot going for it. But one thing that bothers me is that it was advertised as 4K and, although that might be correct, it applies to the HDMI and not the video card in the integrated computer.
This makes having 4 virtual screens on one massive smartboard blurry as heck. I envisioned seriously reducing its effect. Having paid 750 euros for this, it is a bit of a s a bit of a letdown.
In order to hold video calls on my smartboard, I have attached a Logitech webcam. It is a somewhat older model (720p), but it suffices. Though it has a weird bug where it makes me sound like a chipmunk during the first entry in each video call. Logging out and then back into the video call solves the issue.
The issue is annoying but not bad enough to warrant a new webcam taking the hit of mental fatigue through annoyance.
One of the reasons why I got a Canon 600D + lens (as a kit) was that I could record Full HD videos with it as well. After recording, I realized that the focus was always off, and most of the time blurry. Nothing that I tried worked and so I couldn’t utilize what it was advertised for, which greatly upsets me to this day because I need it to record the invisible part of my handicap. For that, I required a camera and went with a DJI-Pocket than a DJI-Pocket second-hand.
The company phone for Ferione is outdated, which causes several issues.
I bought the reflective screen online from a second-hand shop. During setup, I discovered that the equipment is missing a specific attachment on the mount that would allow me to place my microphone in front of the reflective screen and make it functional.
The company phone for Preptalk is outdated, which causes several outdated, which causes several issues.
Passed on from Noodzakelijk Online to Preptalk as the issue was a true problem for Noodzakelijk Online and buying a second-hand Chromebook for Noodzakelijk Online was easier. The original issue with this Chromebook still exists up to this day.
The company phone for Firespace Music is outdated, which causes several issues.
I am very pleased with my Chromebook, and for over 90% of all tasks, my Chromebook can handle them just fine. Unfortunately, the remaining 10% is when you truly need a Windows or Apple computer. In general, it's compatibility/driver issues or when the software has no dedicated Android OS version available, which sometimes means different features available in the software depending on which OS is used. .
Me and printers have always had a love/hate relationship (but more hate) as they were always breaking down, giving issues, or did not have the features advertised. All in all, there is a need to print, but I do not have a printer anymore because I can’t deal with the mental stress of it.
It is agreeable that most of the issues with what I like to term "broken equipment" are preventable and/or fixable from the manufacturers’ end. For instance, an update in operating systems should require buying an entirely new product. The lifecycle, which is currently about 2-3 years, should be going into the 8-10 year region.
As two-step verification starts to become the norm, it makes a smartphone mandatory. However, to keep business separate, it extends to separate hardware as well. Two-step verification can’t deal well with one device and two account types of systems, so an alternative for two-step verification over the phone number infrastructure is required!
I feel like most of the equipment that I use should be more durable and not need as many updates without having to replace them. Most of the equipment is quite costly to purchase. In particular, if these are things that I need to use on a daily basis as a result of my handicaps, repairing them is often not a viable option either, since they're either not designed for repair or they require such unique skills and resources that it's financially cheaper to replace them outright.
