Mrs. Clayborn

Q: How long have you been teaching?

I’ve been in education for twelve years.

Q: What college did you go to?

I went to the University of North Carolina Charlotte.

Q: What degree did you graduate from college with?

I graduated with a degree in public relations.

Q: What was your inspiration to teach?

My inspiration to teach was my family. I come from a family of educators. So, my mother was a teacher, my grandmother was a teacher, and my grandfather was a teacher. My grandfather later went on to become a superintendent. It’s really interesting because he started his career as a bus driver. So, he was a bus driver, then he was a custodian, then he was a care professional, then he was a teacher, he became a counselor, then he became an administrator, and ultimately a superintendent. So, he is what, you know, kind of set the standard for all of us, because I do, as I said, come from a family of educators, we’re all in education; it’s considered the family business.

Q: What is your favorite travel destination?

I am a cruise girl. I love to go on cruises. So, it doesn’t really matter the destination, as long as I’m on a cruise, and get to eat the yummy food and sail.

 Q; Your favorite subject?

My favorite subject is Reading. I was an ELA teacher.

Q: What is your favorite hobby?

My favorite hobby. I love to watch TV. It is not a good productive hobby, but I am a TV junkie.

Q: Do you have any pets?

I do. I have a 5-year-old Terrier-Schnauzer mix named Gracie, and she is my daughter.

Q: Are you a sports fan? What is your favorite team?

I am a sports fan. I ran track in college, right, so I love track and field, but I have a 13-year-old boy who is obsessed with football and a father who played professional football, so I go with his team always, so I am a New England Patriots fan.

Q: Do you live in San Benito?

No. I live in Lyford. I’m a country girl.

Q: Have you ever won an award?

I have won an award. I actually won an award this year. I was Region One’s Assistant Principal of the Year. So, prior to winning an award for being an assistant principal, I was teacher of the year at my previous district.

Q: What school did you used to teach at?

I used to teach in San Benito.
