To raise money for field trips, RSA held a Taylor Swift-themed Karaoke party in the school cafeteria on Friday, November 10th. The school was on Pep-Rally schedule, so there was about forty-five minutes at the end of the day for karaoke.
Tickets were available for purchase for 5 dollars in the gym and cafeteria throughout the week leading up to the event. The line to secure tickets was incredibly long and tickets were sold quickly. Originally, extra tickets were supposed to be sold at the door, but tickets were completely sold out by the morning of the event.
Although the line to enter the karaoke party was extensive, the line moved swiftly. There was a sense of excitement and anticipation as you walked in the doors. The atmosphere was buzzing with positivity, light, and joy everywhere. There were booths for snacks and prizes on the cafeteria's sides and a backdrop for photos. The backdrop was made of glittery pink fringe backdrop with a banner that read ‘RSA’ in assorted colors. Taylor-themed props with quotes from her songs were printed on a few props. Lights flashed and changed colors while music blared from the speakers.
A new group of people sang each song and earned deafening applause. They played an assortment of Taylor’s songs including Our Song, ...Ready For It?, Blank Space, Gorgeous, and many other popular songs. Ironically, Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus was played and produced an extremely positive reaction. Students and administrators attending the karaoke night danced and sang their hearts out along to the music. The music was a spectacular hit among Swifties and non-Swifties.
Near the end of the party, students were shocked by a special surprise from the principals. As the grand finale, Dr. Rodriguez, Mr. Perez, and Ms. Clayborn wowed the crowd by singing Love Story. Students adored the surprise and shouted the lyrics at the top of their lungs while the principals sang.
While everyone was packing up their things and getting ready to leave, Ms. Ibarra and Ms. Respondek sang a quick song before the guests left. At the end of the Taylor-themed karaoke, students had an overwhelming response. From comments such as “The karaoke was amazing.” and “I absolutely loved it!” to “It was the best thing ever!” gave me a feeling of joy and pride for the people who organized it and had their hard work pay off.
The Taylor Swift Karaoke night was better than anticipated and provided a fun time for both students and staff. I had a blast, and I hope we can throw another party like this.
