Stefon Diggs Is Going Where?

By Tyler Shelley

For the second time in Stefon Diggs’ career, he is being traded.

In the middle of an energetic NFL offseason, the Buffalo Bills made a move with the Texans that sent shocks through the league. Stefon Diggs, the star wide receiver who had become a fan favorite in Buffalo, was traded to the Houston Texans in a deal that left people scratching their heads.

Who is Diggs though? Diggs is an incredible wide receiver in the NFL that has been in the league for many years. He started his career with the Minnesota Vikings. He got drafted in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL draft with the 146th overall pick. He has had an outstanding career with his first six seasons leading to 1,000+ receiving yards.

Stefon’s brother on the Dallas Cowboys was making the situation in Buffalo worse as he kept tweeting many things to make the drama worse. Before Diggs left the Bills, he tweeted, “Man 14 Gotta get up outta there” stating that he wanted his brother to leave there and get closer to him. In luck of the draw, Stefon got closest to Dallas as he could by getting traded to the Houston Texans and moved to the Texas region for football.

The story begins with Diggs feeling a sense of urge to cause drama in the Bills locker room. Despite his success with the Bills of all 4 straight seasons having 1,000+ receiving yards and 100+ catches, he longed for a new challenge, a fresh start on a team that had better potential to win the big game. Meanwhile, the Texans were in the midst of a rebuild, looking for a veteran presence to lead their young squad. The Texans’ General Manager saw an opportunity and reached out to the Bills, proposing a trade that would benefit both parties. The Bills gave up Diggs, a 2024 sixth-round pick, and a 2025 fifth-round pick while the Texans handed over a 2025 second-round pick.

"I can't begin to express the amount of love and respect I have for the city of Buffalo. Four of the best years of my life, the city welcomed me with open arms. I'm forever grateful for you all and the [Bills] organization!," Diggs wrote on Instagram Wednesday evening. "Something special was built over these years with some very special men, that will always have a place in my heart. Billsmafia, so many great memories created throughout the years. Those games were crazy because of you. Sadly good things come to an end until we meet again. 14."

The negotiations were intense, with both teams weighing the pros and cons. The Bills were reluctant to let go of their star player, but the offer from the Texans was too good to pass up knowing the fact that he could ruin the Bills season next year, causing too much drama. It included a draft pick that could secure the Bills’ future and give them the flexibility to draft a more well-rounded player in the next draft.

As the news broke, the city of Buffalo and all other Bills fans were in disbelief. Could the Bills have gotten a better offer from other teams? It was too late to find out. Diggs had been stunning in his seasons with the Bills, but he was heartbreaking in the Bills’ recent playoff run. His departure to Houston left a hole in the Bills receiver room that seems impossible to fill. The draft is coming up soon. Fans hope they can draft a wide receiver that can produce stats just like Diggs used to. Fans gathered on social media, blowing it up, discussing the trade and its implications for hours on end. Some were angry, others were understanding, but all were united in their love for the team and hoped it would be a huge benefit with the drama maker going out of Buffalo.

Diggs, on the other hand, was excited for the new chapter in his career. He arrived in Houston to much fan acclamation, excited to have a new offensive weapon on the team. Greeted by cheering fans and a media frenzy. The Texans welcomed him with open arms, eager to see how his experience and talent would transform the team.

The Texans got straight to training with Diggs to see what he was really made of. He proved his worth after a couple of days of training and was ready to practice with the team.

In the end, all trades can lead to different miracles, and the Texans got a superstar in a blockbuster trade to continue their franchise and build on their incredible season from last year. The Texans' new superstar will be a key role in his new offense.
